The movie lost some of the feeling of the previous movie. Throughout, it just felt like it was missing that certain something. Still, it succeeded in delivering where it really mattered; grandiose kaiju combat!

There are new elements that I love (see Obsidian Fury) but also a few that I don't. The plot makes some poor choices and it ditches the tone of the original for a more "anime" vibe. Still, it has some cool ideas and I enjoy the core story.
